With “lose weight and exercise more” being the number one most commonly broken New Year’s resolution and 60 percent of gym memberships bought in January going completely unused, which means a lot of money and opportunity wasted, the personal-finance website WalletHub decided to take an in-depth look into 2018’s Best and Worst Cities for an Active Lifestyle.

To determine where Americans have the best chance of balancing a healthy diet with ample physical activity, WalletHub compared the 100 biggest U.S. cities across 34 key metrics. Some cities, for instance, lack sidewalks or neighborhood parks while others encourage new fitness centers to open for business.

The data set used to create these active lifestyle city rankings include metrics such as average monthly fitness club fees, public sports facilities per capita, and each town’s share of physically inactive adults.
