When my wife and I started shopping for e-bikes, the sticker shock had us rethinking the whole idea pretty quickly. Some of these things cost as much as a decent used car.
I know the economy has everyone grumpy these days, but I’m not about to take out a loan for a bicycle.
Then we found the Lectric XP4 Long-Range.

It was right in our price range. Also, the reviews we combed through kept saying the battery lasts, and the bike holds up well in a variety of riding conditions.
So we bought one for my wife. She opted for the step-thru model in Raindrop Blue. In just a few months, she’s loved it so much that she’s logged hundreds of miles.
I borrowed it so often that she’d come home and ask where her bike was. That’s how I ended up with my own step-over XP4 750 Long-Range.
In my opinion, the Long-Range is worth the upgrade if you really love to ride. For $300 more than the standard XP4, you get a stronger 750W motor and a bigger battery that lasts up to 85 miles on a charge. I can ride across town, take the long way home by the beach, and still not think about the battery. It handles steep hills with little effort, and the torque sensor makes pedaling buttery smooth.
It also reaches around 28 mph where your state allows it, and the hydraulic brakes stop quickly when someone pulls out of a driveway or swerves without looking.
What really sells the XP4 for me is how it folds in half for easy storage. Our mid-century apartment is tiny, and the bike fits in a corner without taking up the whole space. It also slides into the back of a car or SUV when we want to explore somewhere farther away. The battery pops out, so you can charge it conveniently at home.
The XP4 750 Long-Range step-over is available in two colors: Tempest Grey and Pine Green. The XP4 750 Long-Range step-thru is available in three: Tempest Grey, Stratus White, and Raindrop Blue.
Once you have one, driving anywhere under five miles starts to feel a little ridiculous.
