F*ck The Orlando Shooter, Let’s Remember The Innocent Victims Of The Senseless Massacre

Sadly, when a tragedy the magnitude of the Orlando shooting happens we often dwell on the killer. This gives the murderer an international platform to publicize their sick and twisted agenda. The media absolutely needs to address who the killer is, their motives, how they acquired their weapons and any ideologies that may have encouraged them into committing heinous acts. One of the most asked questions that the public queries is “What does the face of a barbaric butcher look like?” I’m guilty of asking this question and popularizing the Orlando shooter. I posted photos of the maniacal killer yesterday.

We need to continue to delve into the merciless killer’s life to hopefully find a way to prevent the next savage travesty. But we don’t necessarily need to show the killer’s photo after it has been broadcast when images become available. I won’t post any more photos of the Orlando mass murderer. What I will do is show photos of the victims. Saying “There were 50 people killed at the Orlando shooting” doesn’t force you to see a fellow human being who had their life ripped away from them at a moment’s notice. We need to humanize the victims. Don’t just write their names, but rather find out more about them. We need to celebrate their lives.

The city of Orlando released the names of victims from the monstrous mass murder at the Pulse gay nightclub where 50 people were killed. Names on the list are updated once next of kin are notified.

Here are the victims of the Orlando shooting that lost their lives from senseless violence.

Edward Sotomayor Jr.

Edward Sotomayor Jr. was a 34-year-old brand manager for LGBT travel agency Al And Chuck Travel and lived in Sarasota, Florida. He was known to his friends as “top-hat Eddie” because he always wore a black top hat to events.

Sotomayor Jr. was “very outgoing, very friendly” and an “all-around great guy,” Edward’s friend Jason Howell told PEOPLE. “He was one of the greatest guys I’ve ever met. He touched so many people’s lives because he’s such a positive person. He would do anything for anybody.”

“He was super bright,” Edward’s boss Al Ferguson said of Sotomayor Jr. “Being in his 30s, he had accomplished so much.”

Sotomayor knew of the intolerance and violence that were often directed towards gays around the world, but that never scared him.

“What I will say, over and over again, was he was a person who said, ‘We cannot be afraid,'” said Ferguson. “I know his friends are going to be the exact same way… we are not going to be afraid.”

“It’d be sad for people to think he was just some random guy who was just the first announced victim,” Howell said. “He was a lot more than that. A lot more.”

Stanley Almodovar III

Stanley Almodovar III worked as an administrative pharmacy technician for Covanin in Clermont, Florida. He was originally from Springfield, Massachusetts.

On his way to the Pulse nightclub, Stanley laughed and sang in an exuberant Snapchat video as he and his friends were in great spirits in anticipation of a fun night of dancing and partying.

His mother, Rosalie Ramos, knew her son would be hungry after his night out, so she made some tomato and cheese dip and left it in the refrigerator for him.

Only hours later Stanley would be shot three times: in the chest, the stomach and the side. He later died at the Orlando Regional Medical Center.

Ramos, 51, said her son was a happy man with a big heart.

Stanley’s aunt described him as “an amazing person with a good soul.”

Stanley Almodovar III would have turned 24 later this month.

Luis S. Vielma

Luis S. Vielma from Sanford, Florida was studying to be a physical therapy assistant at Seminole State College of Florida. He worked at Universal Studios in Orlando, including the Harry Potter and the Forbidden Journey ride.

Harry Potter author J.K. Rowling mourned the 22-year-old on Twitter.

“Luis was by far the best person I knew,” his friend Will Randle told the Miami Herald. “He inherently made us all better people by simply existing around us. Part of him will always live on in every good decision I make.”

Friends and coworkers paid tribute to Luis, a huge Harry Potter fan.

The day before Luis lost his life he changed his profile photo to this pic with the caption, “True friends who become family.”

Peter O. Gonzalez-Cruz

Peter O. Gonzalez-Cruz went by the nickname “Ommy.” He went to Colonia High School in New Jersey and lived in South Africa for awhile. More recently he worked at UPS in Orlando.

“Peter makes a difference everywhere he goes. He was a happy person,” Peter’s aunt Sonia Cruz told the Herald-Tribune. “If Peter is not at the party, no one wants to go.”

Peter went to Pulse on Saturday night with his best friend, 25-year-old Gilberto Ramon Silva Menendez. They were both killed in the onslaught.

Juan Ramon Guerrero

Juan Ramon Guerrero worked as a telemarketer and was attending the University of Central Florida. Only recently did the 22-year-old Juan come out as gay to his family because he was afraid that they would not accept him, but they welcomed the news as long as he was happy.

“He was always this amazing person (and) he was like a big brother to me,” his cousin Robert Guerrero told Local 10. “He was never the type to go out to parties, would rather stay home and care for his niece and nephew.”

Amanda Alvear

Amanda Alvear was a 25-year-old A nursing student at the University of South Florida. Amanda had recently transformed her body over the past two years by shedding 180 pounds with the help of gastric bypass surgery and daily workouts.

Amanda was a graduate of Ridge Community High School in Davenport, Florida and worked as a pharmacy technician. She planned to be a nurse.

Amanda was at Pulse with her best friend, Mercedes Flores, who was also killed. Amanda took a Snapchat video that captured the sound of gunshots ringing out inside the gay nightclub.

Eric Ivan Ortiz-Rivera

Eric Ivan Ortiz-Rivera was a 36-year-old man who lived in downtown Orlando with his husband. Eric, originally from Puerto Rico, was very artistic and was talented at interior design.

Jean Carlos Mendez Perez

Jean Carlos Mendez Perez was born in Puerto Rico and his passion was hitting the gym and staying fit. The 35-year-old lived and worked in Orlando.

Perez was at Pulse nightclub with his longtime partner Luis Daniel Wilson-Leon, where they were both gunned down.

Anthony Luis Laureano Disla

Anthony Luis Laureano Disla was a 25-year-old performer originally from Puerto Rico.

Franky Jimmy Dejesus Velazquez

Franky Jimmy Dejesus Velazquez, 50-years-old, was the oldest of the victims. Franky, from Orlando, was a visual merchandiser at Forever 21. He was originally from Puerto Rico and traveled the world as a professional Jîbaro dancer.
