Python Caught In Malaysia Is Believed To Be A New World Record And This Thing’s Bigger Than My Old Boat

A reticulated python caught on the island of Penang in Malaysia is believed to be a new world record for ‘longest snake ever captured’. Not only is this MASSIVE python longer than my old fishing boat (seriously, my Century 2201 bay boat was only 22-feet-long, this snake was longer) it also took what appears to be an entire village to lift this snake up for a photograph.

The pending world record for snakes was a reticulated python, and it measured an unbelievable 26-feet in length and weighed close to 550-pounds. Bros, I want you to just look at this fucking snake for a moment and let it sink in that this world record reticulated python was just recently slithering around out in the wild, and could’ve gotten into anyone’s home at any time.

How many dogs do you think this snake must’ve eaten throughout the course of its lifetime? I say ‘course of’ because the snake unfortunately passed away on Sunday after laying an egg.

The BBC reports:

The current record for longest snake ever caught is 7.67m (25ft), Guinness World Records says.
Medusa, a reticulated python weighing 158kg (24st 12lb), is kept at a haunted house in Kansas City, Missouri.
The Malaysian snake, also thought to be a reticulated python, has not been officially measured by record keepers.
Mr Herisyan said it weighed 250kg (551-pounds) and took 30 minutes to rescue.
Another civil defence official said that the snake’s capture and the attention it received likely compounded the stress of laying eggs.
Muhammad Aizat said the snake laid one egg, before going “quiet”.
It was due to be transferred to the government’s Department of Wildlife before it died.

It’s a bummer that such an incredible specimen died almost the instant that it came in contact with humans. I could be very wrong on this but I’m guessing it was the combination of the stressors of passing and egg + being handled for the first time by humans that led to this world record snake’s death, and it wasn’t just a total coincidence.
