The UCONN basketball team picked up a second consecutive national championship on Monday by taking down Purdue, 75-60. Giving a sense of deja vu to NCAA Tournament foes, the Huskies ripped off six straight double-digit wins in a successful title defense.

But that wasn’t the only way in which history repeated itself. While the team cut down the nets in Phoenix, students celebrated back home in Storrs.

A few UCONN classmates were able to attend the game in-person, though a number of generous Arizona State-goers helped fill the school’s student section during that final game.

The large majority of Huskies were watching from the comfort of their couches in Connecticut.

And much like last year, campus vandalism accompanied the championship festivities.

The Hartford Courant reports that six people were arrested by UCONN Police.

Six people were arrested as the University of Connecticut campus celebrated back-to-back men’s basketball national championship victories Monday night.

Reports of vandalism on campus included light posts being torn down, street signs ripped up, and a broken window.

The school released a statement on the damage after the fact, saying, “On the whole, it was a very good night on the Storrs campus and the university looks forward to continuing to celebrate our phenomenal student-athletes, their coaches, and this incredible win.”

In comparison to last year, this was nothing.

After beating San Diego State as a four-seed in 2023, the university reported campus damages north of $125K and 30 arrests. To get out in front of the chaos this year, officials began locking down lamp posts when the Huskies booked their Final Four tickets.

That probably wasn’t the worst idea considering they were used to bash through buildings last April…

Still, there’s no way to completely prevent the misbehavior. UCONN will have to deal with some minor cleanup, but hey, looking back at last year, it could always be worse.

Consider it another Husky victory!
