Aaron Rodgers Calls Out Joe Namath For Talking Junk About Zach Wilson

Aaron Rodgers, similar to most New York Jets fans under the age of 40, doesn’t have much time for Joe Namath and his big mouth.

Following Zach Wilson’s familiarly putrid performance against the New England Patriots — in which the Jets scored just 10 points, the name number of points they scored the week prior in Dallas — Namath called for the 24-year-old to be traded.

“Send him to Kansas City to back up against somebody like [Patrick] Mahomes and maybe learn something. I wouldn’t keep him. I’ve seen enough of Zach Wilson, all right? I’ve seen enough. Has quick feet, can throw a little bit, but I don’t believe what’s going on up there,” Namath said Monday on The Michael Kay Show.

Namath’s calls for Wilson to be traded are obviously ridiculous, as the signal-caller has virtually zero trade value right now.

Besides that, his comments just serve to further pile on Wilson, which Rodgers says isn’t helping the Jets at all.

Speaking on The Pat McAfee Show earlier this week, Rodgers called out “former players” for “not helping the cause” with criticism of Wilson’s play.

“I said to [the team] in the preseason, our toughest task is handling success and that’s whether we’ve having success or not having success. That doesn’t mean you’re winning all the time and got to handle it the right way. When we’re not having success, how do we respond? How do we respond to adversity?” Rodgers said.

“And that goes to our fan base and former players as well. You’re not helping the cause. You’re not helping the cause.”

On Sunday, Gang Green will be playing in its first Sunday Night Football matchup in over a decade, having last played on NBC in 2012.

Making matters worse for the Jets is the fact that Taylor Swift is rumored to be attending the game, which will draw even more eyeballs to what will likely be a beatdown at the hands of the Kansas City Chiefs.

Despite Wilson’s struggles this season — the former BYU Cougar has completed 52% of his passes (a career low) for 467 yards, two touchdowns, and four interceptions — Jets head coach Robert Saleh seems strangely committed to the draft bust, as he’s routinely reiterated to the media that he’ll be the team’s starting quarterback.
