One of Aaron Rodgers’ earliest rivals in the National Football League believes the 41-year-old quarterback still has gas left in the tank. And that’s none other than fellow former Green Bay Packers quarterback Brett Favre.
Aaron Rodgers and Brett Favre have had a famously icy relationship over the years, although it’s been smoothed over the last decade or so.
When Rodgers was first drafted by the Packers in 2005, Favre famously said that his contract “doesn’t say I have to get him ready to play,” leading to a few years of tension between the two.
Recent years have seen the pair repair their relationship, however — at least to the extent of mutual respect — and now Favre finds himself arguing in favor of Rodgers, something that might’ve seemed impossible when the two first met almost 20 years ago.
“He’s got something left. I think I’m right in saying that he has a lot of juice left in the tank,” Favre told TMZ Sports.
“I just think he still can play. You saw it this last game. You go, ‘Well, where’s that been?’ That’s the Aaron Rodgers we know. He’s making all the throws, guys are responding to him, love playing with him. Where’s that been all year?”
During the 2024 season with the Jets, which saw the team finish third in the AFC East with a record of 5-12, Rodgers started in all 17 games and completed 63% of his passes for 3,897 yards, 28 touchdowns and 11 interceptions.
If Rodgers did decide to continue playing somewhere other than New York, possible landing spots include the Las Vegas Raiders, Minnesota Vikings, and Tennessee Titans. There’s also been reports that his former Packers head coach Mike McCarthy is “intrigued” by the idea of reuniting with the four-time NFL MVP.
