Everyone knows that Coors Field, home of the Colorado Rockies, is the best field to hit at due to its elevation that helps balls fly out of the park, thin air that keeps pitches from breaking sharply and an expansive outfield that helps hits fall in. And, the Los Angeles Angels took full advantage of that Saturday night, when they pounded out 28 hits en route to a whopping 25 runs.

25 runs have only ever been scored 21 times in MLB since 1900, making it much more rare than a no-hitter and about as common as a perfect game. What’s even more impressive is that phenom Shohei Ohtani was just 1-7. But, former number one overall pick of the Philadelphia Phillies, Mickey Moniak, was 5-5, Mike Trout was 3-3 before being taken out of the game for rest, and Brandon Drury and Hunter Renfroe both had four hits.

Most of the damage was done early. After being held scoreless by the Rockies in the first inning, the Angels scored eight in the second inning, followed by a whopping thirteen runs in the third. A run each in the 5th inning and the 8th inning gave them 25. It added up to a franchise record.

But, the highlight came in the third inning. With the game still very much up for grabs, the Angels hit three home runs to open the game on back-to-back pitches. First it was Trout, then Drury, then catcher Matt Thaiss.

Quite the rare feat. In the meantime, not a great night for the Rockies pitching staff, to say the least. Thankfully, the Rockies did at least score on a home run in the 8th by Brenton Doyle for their only run of the game.
