The life of an NFL kicker can be incredibly lonely. Rarely are you beloved, and frequently you’re the villain. Washington Commanders kicker Austin Seibert learned that the hard way on Sunday.

The Commanders looked to have completed a fantastic comeback when Terry McClaurin had a miraculous catch and run late in the game. But, Austin Seibert blew it with a missed extra point, and he was pretty despondent about it.

Washington, who came in as losers of two straight, came in needing a win against an awful Cowboys team to get back on track. But, they fell behind 27-17 late in the fourth quarter after Kevontae Turpin kick return touchdown. The deficit would’ve been smaller, but Seibert missed a field goal and extra point earlier in the game.

The Commanders pulled off a miracle, though. They got in field goal range quickly, and head coach Dan Quinn smartly immediately kicked a field goal. Then a quick three-and-out for Dallas gave them the ball back with 21 seconds left, setting up this play.

Remember, the Commanders already won a game on a Hail Mary this year. This looked like it was going to be another miracle finish for the Commanders. All they had to do was make the extra point, and overtime would be essentially guaranteed.

They did not make the extra point.

It was a bad snap, but Tress Way did a great job with the hold. Did the bad snap throw off the timing of Austin Seibert? Maybe. But, you have to find a way to make that kick, especially after missing two earlier.

After the game, Seibert was pretty devastated, and even shed some tears.

Such is the life of an NFL kicker.
