This offseason, Baker Mayfield is preparing to quarterback his 3rd team since the end of the 2021 NFL season.
The last two stops haven’t worked out too well for him.
He started last season with the Carolina Panthers, but struggles and was released in the middle of the year.
He then headed to the Los Angeles Rams and gave fans hope for a career resurgence in a comeback win over the Raiders and a blowout win against the Broncos. Unfortunately, he wasn’t all that impressive in his other 3 games with the team.
Now he has been signed by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers as they attempt to move on from Tom Brady after his retirement.
However, it appears it isn’t a certainty that Baker will be their next starter.
Buccaneers offensive coordinator Dave Canales revealed that Mayfield will be competing with Kyle Trask for the starting job.

“I would like to take it as far as I can. . . . Like I told [General Manager Jason Licht] early on, I will coach the crap out of whoever you give me, and whoever we decide to [start], but I’ll have them both ready,” Canales said via Fox Sports’ Greg Auman.
Mayfield surprisingly found himself in a quarterback competition in the preseason a year ago even though he was the presumed starter. He ended up winning the starting job over Sam Darnold although it was Darnold who finished the season with the job.
He’ll be expected to win this year’s QB competition as well. Trask has thrown just 9 regular season passes in his career and hasn’t been all that impressive in his preseason appearances over the past 2 years.
Still, it looks like Baker Mayfield will have to prove he’s an NFL starter one more time.
