While he was almost able to pull off the comeback victory against his former team with a 17-point fourth quarter, Baker Mayfield ultimately came up short in his “revenge game” against the Cleveland Browns, who defeated the Carolina Panthers by just two points on Sunday.

Mayfield, in his first season with Carolina, didn’t particularly give Cleveland any reasons to regret their decision to trade him, as the former Heisman Trophy winner completed 16 of 27 passes for 235 yards, one touchdown, and one interception.

Following a particularly putrid first half that saw him outplayed by career journeyman Jacoby Brissett, NFL fans — both from and outside of Ohio — hopped on Twitter to clown on Mayfield, who made some headlines with his comments about the matchup prior to the game.

Mayfield and the Panthers will look to get their first win of the 2022 season next weekend when they travel up to MetLife Stadium to take on the New York Giants, who delivered one of week one’s biggest upsets by beating the Titans in Tennessee.

As for the Cleveland Browns, they’ve got ten more games until new franchise quarterback and massage enthusiast Deshaun Watson returns from his 11-game suspension. As things currently stand, Watson is scheduled to make his first start during Week 13 against the Houston Texans, his former team and the organization that drafted him out of Clemson University.
