Former loan officer Ben Griffin is having the best year of his life, professionally speaking, picking up two wins already this season on the PGA Tour which has him sitting in 6th place in the FedEx Cup standings and 5th on the money list with $7.116 million in earnings so far in 2025. Throughout all of this he has been able to keep his sense of humor
With an early tee time at Oakmont Country Club on Thursday for the 125th U.S. Open, Ben Griffin prank called his caddie to say ‘goodnight.’ It’s a popular prank on social media over the past month or so, I wrote about it here back in May when Commanders CB Mike Sainristil prank called his QB Jayden Daniels.
With his unique backstory of walking away from professional golf because he couldn’t afford to keep grinding it out only to return and crush it on the PGA Tour, Ben Griffin has a ton of fans on the course. But he’s also picking up a LOT of social media followers in short order where he lets his personality shine with videos like this one:
@bengriffingolf goodnight boys big day tomorrow #usopen #pga #golf #oakmont #goodnight
The caddie saw this coming from a mile away, didn’t it? Griffin hits him with “I really just wanted to call and say goodnight” and his caddie, Alex Ritthamel, clapped back with “okay weirdo, I’ve seen that thing.”
Ben also made the mistake of not muting himself between statements. With his fiancée Dana laughing in the background it was all too obvious what was happening. Still funny though.
I also thoroughly enjoyed this video from Oakmont where Ben tricked Ryan Gerard into asking for his autograph. They are both rising stars on the PGA Tour and being begged for autographs has to be a new phenomenon for them:
@bengriffingolf Just trying to keep all my fans happy (yes this is my good friend Ryan Gerard) #usopen #golf #oakmont
Through his first 9 holes at Oakmont CC, Griffin was -1 with a birdie on the 8th hole and a 15-footer on 9 to save par. If he keeps this up, it could be an incredible week for the two-time winner in 2025.
