The Bengals Offensive Line Literally Played The Worst Game Of Any Team All Season In Super Bowl LVI

The Los Angeles Rams defense had a field day with the Bengals during Super Bowl LVI, just as they did all year. However, the performance from Cincinnati’s line was the worst of any team all season.

Literally.

For the first two quarters of the game, it looked like the line was doing just enough to give Joe Burrow an opportunity to succeed. It wasn’t pretty, but it wasn’t abhorrent.

That was not the case in the second half, especially in the fourth quarter. The Bengals offensive line got eaten alive by Aaron Donald, A’Shawn Robinson and the Rams.

It is a tall task, but Los Angeles’ defense was historically good, while Cincinnati’s line was historically bad. Particularly in passing situations.

During the game, the Bengals finished with an 18% Pass Block Win Rate. That means that of the 34 recorded passing plays, Cincinnati’s line won less than seven. And that doesn’t necessarily include the plays during which Burrow was not able to get the ball out of his hand.

Yikes.

The Cincinnati Pass Block Win Rate was the worst by any team in any game this year. On the flip side, the Los Angeles Pass Rush Win Rate was the best by any team in any game all year.

For the Bengals, that 18% Win Rate sits last for any team to ever play in the Super Bowl since the metric was created. Yikes.

When April rolls around, Cincinnati’s draft strategy will be pretty clear.

Burrow needs protection ASAP, but once he gets it, the Bengals are going to be a force in the AFC for years to come.
