The best and worst college football uniforms of Week 3.
Another week of college football is in the books, and it gave a number of programs an opportunity to sport new uniform designs on the field over the weekend.
I’ve found 10 schools that knocked it out of the park, and two others that missed the mark despite bold attempts to shake things up.
This list is subjective. One fan’s taste doesn’t represent the outlook of all viewers. Opinions differ.
With that being said, if your team made this Top 10 list, it undoubtedly showed out in one of the best looks of the season thus far.
10 best college football uniforms of Week 3.
Schools dropped alternative uniforms this week whether that be in the form of color combos, logo changes, or jersey details. There were 10 that stood out, and two others that swung and missed.
Let’s start with the 10 best before finishing up with the two worst.
Houston Cougars
Houston went with the all-white look for a Friday night matchup with Texas Tech. The Cougars didn’t disappoint.
This was maybe my favorite look of the weekend. The red pops on the white backdrop. The Houston script across the front of the jerseys catches the eyes, offering a changeup from the block logo on the lids.
It was a great contrast to an all-black look worn by Texas Tech, which you’ll see later on this list.
Baylor Bears
Sticking in the Big 12, Baylor is next up thanks to a color rush, all-gold combo. The Bears went with the yellow pants and jerseys, accompanied by a green helmet with a special logo design.
The helmet artwork was created by 6-year-old Ilaria Ramirez of Cameron, Texas and featured a special “Helmet of Hope” decal. The design includes the words “faith,” “victory,” and “strength,” creating a powerful symbol of support for children and families battling childhood cancer.
Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets
The Yellow Jackets wore gold and grey for a Week 3 matchup vs. Mercer over the weekend. The design featured gold domes and jerseys with dark grey pants.
They grey bottoms allow the gold to shine, and while there were some complaints about the helmet color differing from the jerseys, I still thought Georgia Tech knocked these alternatives out of the park.
Ole Miss Rebels
There are very few looks in college football that can rival Ole Miss’s powder blues. The Rebels picked the perfect opportunity to pull them out with all eyes on Oxford.
Ole Miss hosted LSU representing Lane Kiffin’s return to Vaught-Hemingway Stadium. They won the game and the uniform battle.
The light blue helmets matched the jerseys with white pants pulling the combo together. It’s just a classic look that wins every time the Rebs put them on.
East Carolina Pirates
This is East Carolina’s second appearance on my list of best college football uniforms in three weeks. They made their debut with icy whites against Alabama. This time, they switched things up with a retro design.
ECU rocked white jerseys and purple pants to counter Old Dominion’s all-blue. The yellow shadow outline of the purple numbering is awesome. The white lids with the skull and crossbones were the perfect final touch.
Oregon Ducks
Another frequent flyer on top uniform lists, the Oregon Ducks chose to color rush with an all-green design for a Week 3 meeting with Portland State.
The helmets featured yellow wing decals up top, while the classic Oregon Duck logo was seen on the jersey shoulder pads.
Not many in college football can connect on jersey designs as much as the Ducks. This won’t be their last appearance in 2026.
Boise State Broncos
These Boise State blues weren’t all that different than what you’d see on a typical Saturday in Idaho. Up top is where the Broncos shined.
The helmet logo featured a throwback look, honoring the 1969-1974 era with retro decals on white lids. Personally, I prefer the old school logo to the current stallion.
Virginia Tech Hokies
The Hokies went icy white for a road matchup vs. Maryland over the weekend to offset the Terps’ red homes. It was easily one of the week’s best looks.
Virginia Tech’s swagger showed on the field as they left with a 35-26 win over the Terrapins in their first trip to College Park nearly 20 years.
Oklahoma State Cowboys
Oklahoma State wore orange and white with special helmet designs to honor the 1976 Tangerine Bowl team. The throwback OSU logo was the chef’s kiss to a great home look.
The Cowboys have now made back-to-back appearances on my lists after last week’s win over Oregon, both of which can be attributed to the helmet decal.
TCU Horned Frogs
TCU made my initial Week 0 list thanks to Ireland-themed fits worn in Dublin. They’ll make another appearance after dropping new designs in Week 3.
The Horned Frogs’ helmets featured script logos and diamond stripes down the middle. They pulled the purple jerseys and white pants together. TCU showed out in the alternative looks, beating UCF 31-7.
Worst college football uniforms of Week 3.
These received some praise for bold changes, but in my eyes, they missed the mark. I’ll commend the efforts, but the designs just didn’t do it for me.
Texas Tech Red Raiders
Texas Tech went “Dark Mode” for its Friday night showdown with Houston. Patrick Mahomes helped with the design features.
I wasn’t a huge fan of the TTU helmet decals or the striping on the shoulder pads. I probably would’ve preferred a little more white as opposed to red in the numbering and logo designs.
Some loved the all-blacks, which were worn in a close win at home. It wasn’t my favorite look.
San Diego State Aztecs
SDSU repped “Age of the Jaguar” uniforms on Saturday night against James Madison. While there were aspects that I liked, most notably the Aztec shoulder designs, there were other areas that fell short.
The helmet logo wasn’t great. The jerseys seemed a little busy, and the red and black sort of clashed.
I prefer the school’s black uniforms, which all0ws the other school colors pop. They’ll likely return to a more traditional look in the future.
