Bill Belichick Wouldn’t Let Rob Gronkowski Talk About His Amazing Touchdown Celebration

Rob Gronkowski is known for a number of things, like his love of the number 69 and his tendency to spike basically anything he can get his hands on— including footballs, beers, cakes, wedding bouquets, and pineapples. His two main interest collided when he scored his 69th touchdown earlier this year, and while I almost expected him to retire on the spot, he’s continued to play— and entertain.

During yesterday’s game against the Dolphins, Patriot’s receiver Brandin Cooks scored a touchdown to put his team up 35-17 and essentially seal the win. After crossing the goal line, Cooks decided to take advantage of the NFL’s newly relaxed celebration rules and rode Gronkowski like Adam Sandler rode a golf club in Happy Gilmore.

However, Patriots coach Bill Belichick— who may or may not be a robot unable to express emotions or process the mere idea of happiness— was apparently not entertained by the post-touchdown shenanigans. During the press conference after the game, a reporter asked Gronkowski about the celebration, and he was forced to hold back as he attempted to give an answer.

Here’s his full response:

“That was not planned or anything. We got yelled at. We’re not allowed to talk about celebrations. That’s what we got told but I kind of want to talk about it. But I kind of don’t because I’ll get in trouble. So I don’t know what to do.”

I have to give Gronk some major credit for being able to restrain himself for what may be the first time in his entire life.
