Buffalo Bills defensive back Jordan Poyer has made quite a name for himself in the NFL since being selected in the seventh round of the the 2013 Draft.

He also might be the first player ever selected in the draft that is an alien. At least that’s something he believes.

Taken by the Eagles, he played in just three games for Philadelphia before being released and claimed off of waivers by the Browns.

After three-plus seasons in Cleveland where he started just 10 games in total, finally got his big break when the Buffalo Bills signed him as a free agent before the 2017 season.

Since then he has started every game that he has been healthy for Buffalo (from 2018 to 2021 he didn’t miss a game) and was named first-team All-Pro in 2021.

So what changed?

In a new interview with The Athletic, Jordan Poyer explains that it was a combination of quitting drinking and doing ayahuasca.

Poyer admitted in the interview that he drank a lot in college, but by 2018 he was drinking a six-pack of IPAs in 20 to 30 minutes and often blacking out.

“I’d find him drinking in crazy places, like under the bathroom cabinets, hidden like a child,” his wife Rachel revealed.

However, after quitting drinking he was still dealing with anxiety and depression.

That’s when he discovered ayahuasca.

“It’s brownish and really thick,” he said. “It almost looks like oil, but it’s darker and thicker. It’s one of the worst things you could ever taste.”

It was while under the influence of the psychedelic drug he says he learned how to love and appreciate all that he had.

“After he did ayahuasca, he became like my dream husband,” Rachel said. “I was nervous about what it would do to him, but he came back a totally new man, so appreciative of me and our family.”

That new man might be an alien.

“I truly feel like I’m not from this planet, always being the odd one out, having different perspectives, thinking differently,” Poyer admitted.

Now, Poyer says, his “purpose is to be a bright light for everybody that I touch and connect with.”

Let’s just hope all aliens feel that way.
