Update:

Due to new sponsorship from PublicSq, the event is back on.

Original story:

Bills safety Jordan Poyer decided to cancel his upcoming charity golf event, the Celebrity Open, which was scheduled to take place at the Blue Monster course in Trump National Doral Miami.

The announcement came after facing backlash and pressure from various teams and individuals who withdrew their participation and expressed their concerns to the ECMC Foundation, the event’s intended beneficiary.

Although Poyer did not disclose the exact number of golfers who withdrew from the tournament, he explained in an Instagram post that the ECMC Foundation, described as a “big sponsor” of the event, decided to pull out due to pressure from higher authorities.

Poyer acknowledged the political implications of hosting the event at Trump National Doral in South Florida and expressed his understanding of the different political perspectives held by the individuals involved.

While the ECMC Foundation clarified that they were not sponsors but beneficiaries of the tournament, they expressed their support for Poyer’s decision and expressed hope for future collaboration.

Star Bills players such as quarterback Josh Allen and wide receiver Gabriel Davis offered support to Poyer in his Instagram comments.

Criticism of the Trump National venue emerged shortly after the event’s announcement in early June. Despite the negative comments and attempts to politicize the event, Poyer’s representatives at the Avalon Group released a statement condemning any form of violence and emphasizing their commitment to making a positive impact in the community.

The tournament, intended to raise funds for the Buffalo community, was scheduled to take place on July 10 at one of Poyer’s favorite courses in South Florida.

Poyer, who resides in the Miami area during the offseason, expressed disappointment over the cancellation but remained composed in a video shared on social media, explaining his perspective and the challenges faced by society.

In his heartfelt video, Poyer mentioned his ability to set aside personal differences in order to utilize his platform for the greater good. He highlighted the need for individuals to transcend ego-driven behavior and engage in open dialogue and mutual respect, regardless of their differing beliefs.

Poyer emphasized the importance of connecting with and positively impacting the lives of others, beyond the boundaries of race, religion, or political affiliation.

Poyer’s wife, Rachel Bush, a well-known social media figure, also took to Twitter to address the situation. She clarified that the cancellation was not a result of Poyer’s decision but rather due to the actions and last-minute withdrawals of others involved in the event.

Bush expressed their unwavering commitment to their beliefs and their intention to host the tournament at the same venue next year, emphasizing that the cancellation was a result of others’ arrogance and the subsequent challenges it posed.

Despite the cancellation of his charity golf event, Poyer, who recently re-signed with the Bills, remains dedicated to using his platform to create positive change and encourages others to do the same.
