The Boston Bruins had a dream season. They went a remarkable 65-12-5 in the regular season, good enough for 135 points. Both the number of wins and points were an all-time NHL record.

They were led by an incredible season by winger Dave Pastrnak. Pastrnak had a remarkable season, and scored 61 goals to go along with 52 assists. If it wasn’t for the incredible season by Edmonton Oilers superstar Connor McDavid, he would likely be the MVP.

And, their top two defenders, Charlie McAvoy and Hampus Lindholm, were among the best in the league, too. Couple that with amazing goaltending from Linus Ullmark and Jeremy Swayman, and it was a superteam.

They were supposed to roll in their first round series against the Florida Panthers, who had to rally down the stretch to make the playoffs. But, that’s not how it went, to say the least.

After splitting the first two games in Boston, the Boston Bruins won two games in Miami to take a 3-1 series lead. They were in complete control with the series heading back to Boston for game 5. But, they found a way to lose game 5, 4-3 in overtime, and then lost game 6 back in Miami, 4-3, setting up a game 7 with the potential to be mighty embarrassing for the Boston Bruins.

And, it sure was. The Boston Bruins fell behind, 2-0 early on.

But, they scored three straight goals and it looked like disaster had been averted.

But, it couldn’t be so simple, as the Panthers tied it up.

And, in the sudden-death, game 7 overtime, the Florida Panthers stunned the Boston Bruins with this goal by Carter Verhaege.

Everyone is talking about this Bruins collapse.

Diehard Bruins fan Dave Portnoy was pretty bummed out.

And, everyone thinks the Bruins choked.

The Florida Panthers will advance to play the Toronto Maple Leafs in the Eastern Conference Semifinals.
