Brett Favre has found himself embroiled in yet another scandal, as a new report from ESPN indicates that two drug concussion companies backed by the Hall of Fame quarterback allegedly “overstated their NFL connections and exaggerated the known effectiveness of their drugs during efforts to raise money.”

Furthermore, the two companies — Prevacus and PresolMD — allegedly received more than $2.1 million in Mississippi funds that were earmarked for welfare families, according to court filings.

Court filings show the companies and their founder, Jake VanLandingham, faced substantial debts over the past several years, even as VanLandingham was pressing potential investors to help get his drugs to market.

According to the lawsuit cited in the ESPN report, Favre is Prevacus’ “top outside investor” and has reportedly put $1 million of his own money into both companies, “which are developing a nasal spray to treat concussions and a cream to prevent or limit them.”

Six people were arrested and charged in 2020 as part of what the state called a “multimillion-dollar embezzlement scheme.” They included Mississippi’s welfare director and the head of a nonprofit, both of whom have entered guilty pleas. Neither Favre nor VanLandingham was charged, but they are among 38 individuals and companies named earlier this year in the civil lawsuit, which seeks the return of more than $20 million that had been designated for needy families. This report from ESPN comes after Favre has spent much of the past few months being dragged through the mud for his alleged involvement in a Mississippi welfare scandal, which allegedly saw the money that was meant for struggling families reappropriated towards building a volleyball stadium at Favre’s daughter’s college, the University of Southern Mississippi.

“If you were to pay me is there anyway the media can find out where it came from and how much?” Favre said in an alleged text to former Mississippi governor Phil Bryant.

ESPN says that Favre declined to submit a comment for the story.
