Brian Ferentz is no longer the offensive coordinator at the University of Iowa. His final game ended in a loss and his tenure with the Hawkeyes came to a close in the funniest way possible.

Brian, son of legendary head coach Kirk Ferentz, cut a deal with Iowa prior to the season. The university vowed to keep him on the staff if he could average 25 points per game this year prior to the season.

He did not come close. Ferentz was forced to resign from his position after the 2023/24 college football season during the middle of the year because his offense was already so terrible.

The Hawkeyes started off with some hope for points but ultimately did not come close to the 25-point average. Here is how it went:

  • vs. Utah State — 24 points
  • at Iowa State — 20 points
  • vs. Western Michigan — 41 points
  • at Penn State — 0 points
  • vs. Michigan State — 26 points
  • vs. Purdue — 20 points
  • at Wisconsin — 15 points
  • vs. Minnesota — 10 points
  • at Northwestern — 10 points
  • vs. Rutgers — 22 points
  • vs. Illinois — 15 points
  • at Nebraska — 13 points
  • AVERAGE: 18 points per game

That was before the postseason. Despite Ferentz’s incompetent offense, Iowa managed to win 10 games behind the defense and record-breaking punter Tory Taylor.

The Hawkeyes somehow made it to Indianapolis and faced the No. 2-ranked Michigan Wolverines in the Big Ten Championship. They did not score.

As a result of the loss, Iowa was relegated from a ‘New Year’s six’ bowl game to the Cheez-It Citrus Bowl against Tennessee. It lost.

Although the defense wasn’t great either, Ferentz’s offense was the root cause for the deflating finish to his time coaching alongside his father. The Hawkeyes did not score, again, and the box score is hideous.

  • Total:
    • 61 plays
    • 173 yards
    • 2.8 yards per play
    • 12 first downs
  • Passing:
    • Nine completions on 25 attempts
    • 60 yards
  • Rushing:
    • 36 carries
    • 113 yards
  • Third down:
    • 2-for-15
  • Turnovers:
    • One fumble lost
    • Two interceptions

They failed to score even one single point during 29 minutes and 48 seconds with the ball.

Iowa did not score a touchdown in the in the final 163 minutes and 22 seconds of Ferentz’s tenure as offensive coordinator. His offense finished dead last in the country.

Congratulations to Hawkeyes fans everywhere. Brian Ferentz is gone. The wicked witch is dead!
