LSU played their bowl game on Monday against the Purdue Boilermakers, but it was another headline that had the football team trending on social media. Just search “LSU Rumors” on Twitter for everything you need to know.

Those rumors involved a number of folks on the coaching staff as well as a former player. Following the Citrus Bowl win, head coach Brian Kelly responded publicly for the first time to these accusations.

The unsubstantiated claims revolved around members of the staff, as well as a soon-to-be NFL draftee, engaging in misconduct dating back to the program’s SEC Championship appearance. A social media account of a rival school posted the rumors on Instagram the night before the Tigers’ bowl matchup.

In his postgame presser, Kelly shut down any wrongdoing by LSU’s players or staff. Here’s what he had to say when asked if his assistant coaches were in good standing with the season officially coming to an end.

“Absolutely, 100 percent yes. There are no coaches or support staff that are currently with me that have done anything that would require me to feel as they haven’t met the highest of standards that are required.”

Brian Kelly didn’t entertain any skepticism surrounding his staff while putting to bed some pretty wild hearsay. Instead, he appears to be looking to the future.

That future is bright as the Tigers are fresh off an SEC West title and 63-7 blowout of Big Ten foe Purdue. That decisive victory gave LSU its 10th win of the year in Kelly’s debut season with the program. They’ll now look to take things a step further in 2023 by shooting for an SEC Championship and possible College Football Playoff appearance.

Things are off to a good start in the New Year for Kelly and Co. following this big win. It should help the Tigers improve upon an already highly regarded ’23 recruiting class.

LSU has an offseason to celebrate the accomplishment of this past campaign before prepping for a season-opening rematch with Florida State next September.
