Britt Reid, the former Kansas City Chiefs assistant coach and son of head coach Andy Reid, has long faced legal troubles. Now, he’s getting a break from Missouri Governor Mike Parsons (R) in the form of a commutation of his sentence.

Britt Reid pled guilty to Driving While Intoxicated in 2022. Those charges stemmed from an incident near the Chiefs’ facility when he was serving as the team’s linebackers coach just days before Super Bowl LV.

The crash left a five-year-old girl with significant injuries, and the Chiefs committed to paying for her long-term medical care. The incident was serious enough that Britt, whose blood-alcohol levels were well over the legal limit, was sentenced to three years in Missouri state prison.

But, his sentence will be much shorter than that, as Governor Parsons decided to commute his sentence on Friday. Here’s Yahoo! with more.

Reid, who is the son of Chiefs head coach Andy Reid, pleaded guilty to a single felony charge of driving while intoxicated in 2022. He was sentenced to three years in prison in November 2022. While Reid is being released from prison, he will be under house arrest until Oct. 31, 2025 and will have “strict conditions of probation.”

“Mr. Reid has completed his alcohol abuse treatment program and has served more prison time than most individuals convicted of similar offenses,” his commutation letter read, in part.

How do the victims feel about this, according to one of their lawyers.

An attorney for Young’s family said Friday that he was in disbelief after the commutation news.

Who can blame them? The life of a five-year-old girl was permanently altered, and Britt Reid serves not even half of his original sentence. I think all of us would be pretty upset if we were in their shoes.
