BYU offensive lineman Dylan Rollins entered the college football transfer portal with four years of eligibility remaining. He did so in the most Brigham Young way possible.

Rollins, a former three-star recruit in the Class of 2021, was the highest-rated recruit to come out of the state of Montana in six years. The 6-foot-6, 295-pound tackle is a really fantastic prospect who fits the mold of a future NFLer with proper development under the right staff.

Upon arrival to Provo, he took a redshirt year.

And then he left!

As a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Elder Rollins chose to teach the Book of Mormon after completing of his first year of college. The Missoula-native began his Mission in Tacoma, Washington in July of 2022. He will finish his two years away in May of 2024.

It takes a lot of courage to do what Rollins is doing and his Mission is a testament to his admirable character. He is coachable and dedicated. That doesn’t even factor his talent and size into the equation!

Upon return from his Mission, Rollins will likely not head back to BYU for the remainder of his college football career. He announced his decision to transfer while actively serving the Lord!

It was the most BYU way to enter the portal. Rollins is not on campus and has not been on campus in more than 16 months.

Rollins, who got to campus as a bright-eyed 18-year-old, will return to the sport as a 21-year-old redshirt freshman. He will graduate at 25 years of age.

There is no indication as to where Rollins might land. A return to BYU has not been ruled out.

Wherever he ends up, Rollins will provide an instant boost to the offensive line. The impact of such a high-character teammate on the locker room might be even more valuable!
