Caitlin Clark is about to get PAID is a major way.

Reports surfaced Wednesday evening that Clark is on the cusp of agreeing to an eight-figure deal with Nike for her own signature shoe.

Now Shams Charania of The Athletic and FanDuel TV reports that the is likely to exceed $20 million.

“So she met with three finalists: Under Armour — Stephen Curry was part of that pitch meeting. I’m told the plan in that scenario would have been for her to be a part of Under Armour and Curry Brand and possibly wear Curry Brand,” Charania said on the Up and Adams show.

“…Adidas was another company that met with her. But Nike came over the time. Eight-figure deal…I’m told it’s well beyond $10 million…I think it’s fair to say that it’s above $20 million. Now, how above? We’ll see once we get the final numbers.”

So, how does that compare?

Well, most NBA players do not get a signature shoe line until they’ve actually accomplished something in the NBA.

Victor Wembenyama is the exception to this, having signed a deal reportedly worth over $100 million with Nike But Ben Simmons signed a reported 5-year, $20 million deal with Nike in 2016. And Anthony Edwards signed a lucrative deal with Adidas following the 2020 NBA Draft, but only just released his first signature shoe.

So Caitlin Clark is certainly breaking the mold with her massive deal.

Caitlin Clark’s Nike Shoe Deal Caused Some Controvery

But that hasn’t sat well with everyone. While plenty of fans are happy to see Clark secure the bag, many are wondering why other stars haven’t done so. Namely, two-time WNBA MVP A’ja Wilson.

Wilson is a Nike athlete but does not have her own signature shoe. Fellow WNBA stars Sabrina Ionescu, Elena Delle Done and Breanna Stewart all do. Both Ionescu and Delle Donne are Nike athletes.

So while Nike made waves their latest deal, and Clark is undeniably a star, the sporting goods and apparel giant may have also caused itself a bit of a headache.
