USC quarterback Caleb Williams made headlines last year with a vulgar message written across his fingernails. This year, the Heisman trophy winner was introduced as the next “Fansville” star in a commercial that played into that instance.

College football fans have been quick to react to selection, with many wondering if he can beat the curse that supposedly haunted previous players.

Williams was the sport’s best player in 2022, throwing for more than 4,500 yards and 42 touchdowns. That insane production not only landed him the Heisman, but it helped the Trojans win 11 games and make a PAC-12 Championship appearance.

Now, he’s reaping the fruits of his labor being named the next “Fansville” star.

The Dr. Pepper advertisement introduced the signal caller as the next series headliner, following in the footsteps of players like DJ Uiagalelei and Bryce Young. They did so by playing on a controversial moment from Williams’ sophomore season.

Ahead of the PAC-12 title game, the quarterback painted his fingers with a special message for his opponent.

“F— Utah,” Caleb Williams’ fingernails read. That message would backfire as the Trojans were throttled, 44-27, ruining any shot of a College Football Playoff appearance.

Many initially questioned whether or not the act would affect his Heisman campaign, but when the votes came in, he was the runaway winner.

It wasn’t the first time we’d seen the superstar paint his nails. In fact, he did it as a freshman at Oklahoma.

Now, Williams’ fingernails are back in the spotlight.

“I love Dr. Pepper,” Williams’ nails read in this instance, a comical spin on the typically abrasive artwork.

In its entirety, the commercial took shots at conference realignment, referenced the expanded playoff, and bashed officiating crews in a ruthless college football preview.

While landing the Dr. Pepper deal is certainly a nod to Williams’ play at USC, fans are wondering if he can beat the “Fansville” curse that’s haunted the last two stars.

We’ll see if Caleb Williams can beat the odds and land a College Football Playoff appearance. That journey will start on Saturday when USC takes on San Jose State.
