Make shark in Cape Cod feeds on striped bass

Cape Cod, Massachusetts is one of the ‘sharkiest’ parts of the country in the Summer as favorable water temperatures bring in abundant sea life, including seals and baitfish, which in turn attracts sharks in search of their next meal. A group of boys were fishing off Cape Cod last week when a massive shark sniped their striped bass next to the boat.

The Cape Cod shark seems to have caught everyone by surprise as it shook the life out of the fish. But let’s be honest, who expects to see a huge shark pop up right next to the boat?!

Cape Cod Shark Eats Striped Bass Next To Boat

Striped bass (striper) fishing in Cape Cod is in FULL swing right now. Fishing is best for stripers from late May through late August depending on the seasonal weather, and even into the Fall migration.

The Massachusetts state fishing record for Striped Bass is a whopping 73lbs. Suffice it to say they get big, and if a shark spots an easy chance to eat one it will certainly take advantage of that situation.

Fishing with Hairball Charters out of Cape Cod, they were hooked up with a hefty striper when what appears to be an XL mako shark materialized out of thin air. Check it out:

While the shark does appear to have some physical characteristics of a great white shark, overall it appears to be a mako. It is hard to know for certain and at this point the Hairball Charters page hasn’t posted anything on Facebook about with only one post at all (last year) since 2017.

Losing a big fish to the ‘Tax Man’ is never fun but those boys made a memory that will last a lifetime. Seeing a shark that big steal your fish is something you never forget. The same can be said about seeing a fish swallow a shark… That happens sometimes!

This video from Capt. Jimmy of Everglades Fishing Co. is one I’ll never forget. An estimated 500lb goliath grouper swallows a shark off Everglades City, Florida:

If you are ever looking to go fishing in the Florida Everglades then Capt. Jimmy of Everglades Fishing Co. is the one and only captain you should reach out to. I’ve been several times and can’t recommend it enough!
