Despite the fact that it’s been almost 15 years since Carmelo Anthony forced his way out of Denver in a trade to the New York Knicks, some sour feelings clearly still exist between Melo and his former head coach George Karl.

Prior to and during President’s Day Weekend, the 39-year-old Anthony and the 72-year-old Karl have been taking shots at each other on social media after the former made some comments about his time with the latter on his podcast.

It first began on the 16th with Karl responding to some comments that Melo made about their time together in Denver, saying:

“Hey Carmelo let’s not do this. You’re telling stories that are 20 years old. Let’s move fwd.  And u were overrated and u wish your game was as efficient as Detlef’s”

After Melo replied to that video with a bunch of laughing emojis, Karl then said “We all know you’re passive aggressive Melo so be real. What’s this mean??”

Karl then continued over the next few days, saying that “Melo was an inexperienced + overrated player when I first coached him, Detlef is one of the best international + most efficient players ever and I’m the last one in Denver who still feels the Nuggets should honor Melo.”

Karl then ran a poll on Twitter asking if NBA fans believe Carmelo should be “honored for his best years, which were in Denver with me”, with 46% of voters being in favor of it, versus 41% saying no and 11% saying “unsure,” which he then used as a pitch to appear on Melo’s podcast.

Karl does have a point about Melo’s best years being in Denver, as he was ultimately unable to bring any relative success to the New York Knicks before spending the final few unremarkable seasons of his career with the Oklahoma City Thunder, Houston Rockets, Portland Trailblazers, and Los Angeles Lakers.
