The Hurricanes Will Rock These Fire Whalers Jerseys This Season But They’re Somehow Tearing The Internet Apart

I grew up in Connecticut in a sort of no man’s land when it came to picking your favorite sports teams and you were essentially forced to either side with Boston or New York.

I eventually pledged my allegiance to Beantown and became a diehard supporter of the Patriots, Red Sox, and Celtics (a decision that finally paid off in the form of multiple championships after a decade of misery).

However, when it came to hockey, there was one team that made both fanbases put their differences aside and come together as one: the Hartford Whalers, better known as the squad with the best theme song in the history of sports.

What a banger.

The Whalers were the only thing the people of Connecticut could claim as their own when it came to professional sports but hearts were broken around the state when the team decided to peace out and head down to North Carolina in 1997.

It was a dark time for all of us.

My allegiance eventually shifted to the Bruins after coming out of mourning but I’ll still always have an affinity for the Whalers, which is why I was pumped to hear the Hurricanes were deciding to rock these fire throwback jerseys during a couple of games this season.

I’m personally all the way on board with these but based on some of the reactions I’ve seen the jersey is somehow tearing the internet apart.

After the reveal, people flocked to Twitter to share their thoughts and it’s safe to say there are more than a few people out there who are decidedly not a fan of the decision.

Here’s just a taste of some of the blowback.

However, there are more than a few people who know what’s up.

At least there are still some reasonable people in the world.
