Thanks for nothing, Texas Tech. How the Red Raiders only beat Kansas by three a week ago I’ll never know. Actually, it probably had a lot to do with them turning the ball over four times against one of the worst defenses in the country. Nevertheless, even with our loss last week, we’ve still hit three of our last five CFB Locks of the Week. This week we’ve got our eyes on a matchup in the Big Ten West.

College Football Lock Of The Week: Minnesota vs. Nebraska

Kick-Off: 12:00 PM EST

The Pick: Nebraska (-10.5)

Just because ‘The Game’ between Ohio State and Michigan was canceled doesn’t mean we can’t pay attention to the Big Ten this weekend.

This matchup between Nebraska and Minnesota is a unique one, for sure. The Golden Gophers have had their last two games canceled due to COVID-related issues and last took the field on November 20 when they beat Purdue 34-31. On the other side of the ball, Nebraska has played six games this season and ended a two-game losing streak against that same Purdue team just a week ago.

The biggest storyline to pay attention to heading into this game is just how many bodies Minnesota will have on Saturday. ESPN has reported that a total of 23 players and 26 other staff members have tested positive for COVID-10, but have only seen two positive tests over the past week. As of the December 7 report, the Golden Gophers could be missing 20 players for the Nebraska game. Plus, star wideout Rashod Bateman has announced he’ll be opting out for the remainder of the season. Missing up to 20 players including your best weapon on offense isn’t necessarily a recipe for success.

Minnesota is going to rely on the run on Saturday, which Nebraska has struggled against this season allowing 170 yards per game on the ground, but the Cornhuskers shut down Purdue’s rushing attack last week allowing -2 rushing yards in the contest.

Nebraska’s offense will go as Adrian Martinez goes this week, which he hasn’t exactly been the most reliable QB this season seeing as how he was benched earlier in the year, but he did show some good stuff against the Boilermakers with just under 300 total yards and one touchdown last week.

Give me the Cornhuskers who have been playing football, at home, against a depleted Minnesota side that will be piecing together its roster this weekend.
