The #20 ranked Texas Longhorns Men’s Basketball team clawed out a close win against their archrival Oklahoma Sooners on Tuesday night. Texas has four starters score 16 points or more in the 80-78 overtime win and the game was followed by a tense moment between UT coach Chris Beard and a Sooners fan.
The heated moment between Texas Longhorns coach Chris Beard and the Oklahoma Sooners fan was something that’s been simmering for a while. Ever since Coach Beard was hired by the University of Texas in April of 2021, becoming the Longhorns’ 25th coach in history, he was exposed to attacks from rival fans.
Why exactly? No good reason other than fans are petty. Chris Beard was the Texas Tech head coach from 2016-2021 before accepting the Longhorns position. I don’t need to explain the Texas Tech x Texas rivalry and why fans in Lubbock were pissed but it did expose Coach Beard to low-hanging fruit attacks from fans like the one in this video below at other schools.
Chris Beard Confronts Sooners Fan Who Called Him A ‘Traitor’
If you turn the volume on you can hear the Oklahoma Sooners fan call out “Chris Beard you’re a traitor!” before the coach walks over to confront him.

It’s unclear what Texas coach Chris Beard said back to the short but tense interaction but it’s hilarious how dismissive the fan was when confronted. I’ve been known to trash talk during games in the past and never in a million years have I expected the players or coaches to respond. I’d probably react the same way, bewildered that someone even heard me.
