Someone Will Win $1.2 Million If The Bengals Finish As The Top Seed In The AFC After Dropping $5K On A Longshot Bet

It’s been over three decades since the Cincinnati Bengals represented the AFC at the Super Bowl, and after failing to secure what would’ve been the franchise’s first Lombardi Trophy in 1988, the team spent a couple more largely mired in mediocrity before giving fans a glimmer of hope when the 2010s rolled around by clinching a wild card spot for five straight seasons only to lose every single playoff game they competed in.

It appeared the Andy Dalton Era had come to an end last year after the team decided to do what the Dolphins failed to by going into Full Tank Mode by unceremoniously benching their former franchise quarterback on his birthday after going winless in its first eight games. However, rookie Ryan Finley didn’t fare any better in his first three starts and Dalton was tapped to take back the helm for a season that ultimately ended with the Bengals sporting a 2-14 record. They received a nice consolation prize for their abysmal efforts in the form of the top pick in the 2020 NFL Draft and unsurprisingly used it to scoop up Joe Burrow to officially usher in a changing of the guard in the pocket in Cincinnati.

Burrow came out of nowhere last year on his way to leading LSU to a national championship and took home the Heisman honors virtually no one saw him winning prior to the start of the season—with the notable exception of one guy who dropped $50 on him to lift the trophy when he was listed as a 200/1 underdog, which resulted in the gambler cashing in his ticket for a cool $10,000.<

Now, Burrow will play an integral role in helping a particularly ballsy bettor secure one hell of a payday after they threw down $5,000 in the hopes the Bengals finish the season as the top seed in the AFC. The wager was placed earlier this week at a BetMGM sportsbook offering 240/1 odds on this unlikely scenario coming to fruition, but if it does, they’ll receive a solid $1.2 million.

The fact that the Bengals were the worst team in the NFL last year, haven’t won a playoff game in almost three decades, and play in the same conference as the Chiefs certainly doesn’t bode well for whoever placed this and I can personally think of around 1.2 million things I’d do with $5,000 before making a bet like this.

However, if you think they might be onto something, you can also use BetMGM to make the same wager. While that requires much less time and effort than going to the bank to take out some cash you can simply light on fire, you should be warned it won’t provide you with any of the warmth. As a result, you might want to examine the other options out there before going with that one.
