Cincinnati QB Desmond Ridder Has Sufficiently Pissed Off Notre Dame Fans

Both Cincinnati and Notre Dame football could have their season defined by this weekend’s meeting. Both teams are 4-0 and both teams are ranked within the AP Poll Top 10.

The winner will add a quality win to its resume while the loser will have its College Football Playoff hopes tarnished. It’s not to say that the loser will not be included in the conversation, however, one-loss teams are less likely to make the cut if they are not a Power Five program.

Take last season, for example.

Cincinnati won every game during the 2020 COVID-shortened regular season and was invited to play in the Peach Bowl— not the CFP. And if Notre Dame loses to a Group of Five team, that could be it.

There is one thing that is certain. Neither the Bearcats nor the Fighting Irish can reach the playoff with two losses, so taking one in Week 4 is not ideal.

Thus, Saturday means a lot (if not everything) to both programs and Notre Dame Stadium will be packed and extremely rowdy. Cincinnati’s offensive coordinator Mike Denbrock even took time to speak to his team and quarterback Desmond Ridder about the volume.

It’s going to be LOUD.

Unless Cincinnati has something to say about it, that is.

Ridder, a redshirt senior, has started every game over the past three years and 11 of 13 in 2018. He is a duel-threat player and a noted leader.

Ahead of this weekend, Ridder is stoking a fire in South Bend, Indiana. He had some very public thoughts that the Irish and their fans will want to make him regret.

Naturally, people had push back on the response, just read the Twitter comments.

It was a bold move for Ridder. Let’s see how it pays off.

An away game at Indiana doesn’t quite compare to the environment of Notre Dame Stadium, but Hoosiers fans did get pretty rowdy and Ridder shut them up. Maybe he will do it again in South Bend?
