It looks like college football’s oldest quarterback is going to be playing one more year.

At 29-years old, Austin Aune was the oldest QB in the college football ranks as he led North Texas.

Now he’s looking for a new team to lead. According to a report from 247 Sports’ Chris Hummer, Aune has entered the transfer portal. Just a few days after North Texas’ appearance in the Miami Beach Bowl.

Austin Aune was a 3-star quarterback prospect coming out of high school and committed to play for TCU. However, he never suited up for the Horned Frogs as the New York Yankees spent a 2nd round pick on him in the 2012 MLB Draft. He chose to play baseball instead of heading to college football.

Aune spent 6 seasons in the minor leagues, but was never able to make it to the majors. That led him back to his football career.

He initially enrolled at Arkansas back in 2018, but transferred to North Texas because of the Razorbacks’ crowded quarterback room. It took him until his 3rd year with the Mean Green to really start seeing playing time, but by his 4th year he had taken over as the team’s starting QB.

This past year was his 5th with the team and easily his most impressive. He threw for 3547 yards and 33 touchdowns while leading the team to an appearance in the Conference USA Championship Game and a 2nd consecutive bowl game appearance.

Now he’ll see if he can lead another program to a bowl game during another season as college football’s oldest QB.
