Scalpers Are Trying To Flip Costco Golf Clubs That Sold Out Hours After Going On Sale

Costco boasts a very devoted customer base thanks in no small part to the bargains it offers with its in-house “Kirkland Signature” brand. Now, a set of golf clubs under that particular label have started popping up at comparatively absurd prices online.

I don’t think it would be a huge stretch to say Costco has a cultlike following among shoppers who flock to the warehouse stores in droves to take advantage of the discounts that come with buying in bulk before capping off their journey with a hot dog and a soda combo that will still set you back just $1.50.

If you’re a Costco veteran, you know some of the best deals come in the form of the products that boast the Kirkland name, which are frequently name-brand items that are marketed as a generic alternative with the price to match.

Plenty of people who play golf have come to rely on Kirkland balls, but the brand recently decided to branch out with a $499 set of irons that appeared to be carbon copies of an older model of TaylorMade P790s (the most current line will set you back a cool $1,400).

On Saturday, the irons officially went on sale. However, they didn’t stay in stock for very long, as Golf reports the entire inventory sold out online just a few hours after the clubs officially hit the market.

It didn’t take long for some supposedly enterprising scalpers to attempt to flip them on eBay, as multiple sellers are attempting to flip them at a sizeable markup with the holiday season in full swing.

Of course, the major reason the clubs were so appealing in the first place was the low price, as it doesn’t make a ton of sense to buy them at the numbers being listed when you consider you could get a set of irons from a slightly more proven golf brand at a similar cost.

With that said, those sellers can take advantage of Costco’s incredibly generous return policy if they don’t find a buyer, so I guess it doesn’t hurt to try.
