Even though Daniel Jones signed with the Minnesota Vikings on Wednesday morning, the former first-round draft pick could still start for a different NFL team this season after beginning his year with the New York Giants. His options are technically still wide open for the next three weeks as the revolving door continues to turn.

Should a third organization get desperate at the quarterback position, it could give the 27-year-old a call.

Jones, drafted No. 6 overall in 2019, went 24-44-1 during six seasons as the starter for the Giants. He was benched in favor of Tommy DeVito after a 2-8 start to 2024 and subsequently released by the organization, which will pay him nearly $12 million not to play for the team.

The decision to let Jones walk allowed him to sign with any team in the NFL after he cleared waivers over the weekend. Minnesota won the sweepstakes. The Vikings signed him to a contract worth $375,000 for the remainder of this season.

However, there is an interesting caveat to the agreement. Daniel Jones will start on the practice squad.

As a result of this initial roster designation, he could still end up at his third team in as many weeks. A team in need of a quarterback with experience could choose to sign him to its active roster off of the practice squad. Minnesota may not be Jones’ final stop after all.

The chances of this scenario actually playing out in real life are slim, but not none. Just for an example, lets use the Arizona Cardinals. If Kyler Murray was to get hurt (God forbid!), Jonathan Gannon could look at Jones as a viable option for his replacement. This also applies to Miami, Indianapolis, Tampa Bay, Cincinnati, Los Angeles, Cleveland, San Francisco, etc. Really any team in playoff contention.

Daniel Jones may still end up as the starting quarterback of a different NFL team even though he signed with the Vikings. The saga is not over yet!
