Darren Rizzi was not happy with New Orleans Saints punter Matthew Hayball during Sunday’s NFL game against the New York Giants. Alvin Kamara had to pull his head coach off of the rookie during a heated exchange on the sideline after a near-disastrous punt return touchdown.
Cooler heads ultimately prevailed after the play was called back due to a holding penalty.
Hayball, an undrafted free agent on a $35,000 contract, booted the ball away on fourth down during the second quarter. Giants wide receiver Ihmir Smith-Marsette caught the punt around midfield and took it all of the way back for six.

However, a flag on New York overturned the touchdown and kept the points off of the board.
Rizzi was not happy with Hayball. He wanted to place the kick at a completely spot on the field but his punter did not put it where he wanted. The failed execution directly resulted in the would-be touchdown.
As a special teams coordinator of more than 30 years, Rizzi will not stand for simple mistakes like an ill-placed punt. Hayball ended up on the wrong end of a vicious tongue-lashing that was caught on camera in its entirety.
Kamara eventually walked over to break up the heated altercation. He pulled Rizzi off of Hayball and made sure to give the first-year punter some words of encouragement to keep his spirits high.

New Orleans Saints fans were thrilled to see their new coach show as much emotion as he did. Dennis Allen would never. Darren Rizzi continues to be one of the most animated personalities in the NFL. You don’t want to get on his bad side. Matthew Hayball found that out the hard way while live on Fox! Everybody saw him get reamed out on the sideline after giving up a touchdown.
