The 2023 College Football National Championship is just days away. This year it will be played at SoFi Stadium in Inglewood, California.
The TCU Horned Frogs are coming in as underdogs to the Georgia Bulldogs who are seeking to win back-to-back National Championships since Alabama in 2011-12.
Geographically speaking, it will be a lot easier for TCU fans to get to the National Championship game than Georgia Bulldogs fans as Texas is significantly closer to Southern California. But a recent tweet from Darren Rovell seemed to imply that TCU fans weren’t traveling well.
5 days ago, Darren Rovell tweeted that TCU had not sold out tickets to the National Championship on their website *before the semis*. 4 days later, TCU’s Intercollegiate Athletics Director, Jeremiah Donati, responded to Darren Rovell‘s tweet calling it ‘fake news’.

There are two different timelines going on here to be sure. At the time Darren Rovell tweeted on 12/31, TCU had not sold out their 5,000 tickets allotted for the National Championship. But that tweet was sent at 9pm on the night of the CFB Semis.
Things changed almost immediately after Darren Rovell’s tweet when the TCU Horned Frogs made it to the National Championship. And TCU fans are riled up in the replies on Twitter:
Did you happen to notice that his phrasing was meant to look as if TCU would not be able to? Why not say "has not" if he knew there was a chance they would?

In fairness, both tweets are misleading. But it’s hard to say if both are intentionally misleading:

Ultimately, it’s a non-story. TCU sold out their tickets easily. They didn’t sell them out before the Semis were over.
