Deion Sanders Singles Out Boo Carter For Confirming Character Concerns With Costly Punch

Deion Sanders called out Boo Carter.


The Colorado football team fell in blowout fashion to Northwestern on Saturday night, 41-7. Head coach Deion Sanders singled out transfer Boo Carter after the game.

Coach Prime overlooked some red flags when adding the secondary member to the roster. Unfortunately, Carter confirmed those character concerns with a costly punch.

The extracurricular activity resulted in a free first down for the Wildcats late in the second half. At the time, the score was still 14-0. Colorado was in a good position to get the ball back without surrendering any points.

Instead, Northwestern kept possession, scored a touchdown, and put the game out of reach.

Boo Carter punched a Northwestern player.

The play came with three minutes left in the second quarter. The Wildcats picked up four yards on a 2nd-and-15 run play to set up third-and-long.

Away from the play, Boo Carter got into it with a Northwestern opponent.

The defensive back was called for unsportsmanlike conduct, gifting the Wildcats a fresh set of downs. They’d increase their lead to 21-0 a few plays later.

Carter is a third-year player that started his career at Tennessee. After a breakout freshman season, he signed a massive NIL deal. Whispers then began swirling that he was “not plugged in.”

Reports surfaced alleging missed workouts and tardiness to meetings, which infuriated teammates. Carter’s mom then sparked transfer rumors with a cryptic threat on Facebook.

In that threat, she directly referenced Deion Sanders.

Carter was dismissed from Tennessee last November, though he claims the departure was injury related. He signed with Colorado a short time later.

Sanders was willing to overlook red flags given Carter’s talent. He was an All-SEC performer as a freshman. He made an impact both as a defender and return man.

Carter had hoped to rewrite the narrative on his behavior issues in Boulder. He has not been able to do so quite yet.

Coach Prime was not happy with his team’s play or actions after the loss to Northwestern over the weekend. The team performed poorly in all three phases of the ballgame.

The Buffs were outgained. They committed nine penalties. There were four turnovers. It was sloppy all around.

Despite the ugly performance, Sanders said he had to tell players to stop laughing after the loss. That shocking response came hours after the team’s regrettable pregame trash talk.

Sanders addressed the team on Saturday after the game. He expects players to respond. He met again with the team on Sunday to stress the importance of “discipline.”

In that teaching moment, he directly singled out Boo Carter.

“(Discipline is) the ability to control one’s own behavior, right Boo?” he asked in the meeting. “You’ve got to control your behavior, right Boo? Control your behavior, right Boo? You’ve got to control your behavior, no matter what’s going on, to reach your goal…

“You can’t be undisciplined off the field and expect to be disciplined on the field.”

Sanders made it a point to call out his transfer over the behavior issues. He overlooked a checkered past to offer a chance to play at Colorado. Carter made his look silly for doing so on Saturday night.

There is still time to rewrite the narrative, but Sanders stressed that a change needs to happen.
