DiJonai Carrington says her "white privilege" tweet wasn't about her foul on Sophie Cunningham
Chicago Sky forward DiJonai Carrington has claimed that her “WHITE PRIVILEGE” post on Threads following her Flagrant 2 ejection for a hard foul on Sophie Cunningham was not about the foul call itself. The discourse Cunningham and the WNBA is now entering its third week.
DiJonai Carrington was ejected from the Chicago Sky’s game against the Indiana Fever on Sunday, August 8 after hitting hot-button guard Sophie Cunningham in the head during a fast-break layup attempt.

Shortly after her ejection, Carrington posted “WHITE PRIVILEGE” on Threads and tagged the Indiana Fever. Despite the implication, however, Carrington has since claimed that her tweet was not about the foul against Cunningham.
“I’ve never once claimed that the assessment of the foul was white privilege (that was your assumption). Try exercising your critical thinking skills, I know you studied psych,” Carrington said in reply to an Emmanuel Acho video.
“Furthermore, I’m the LAST thing from ignorant or asinine when it comes to speaking on ‘white privilege’, do ya research on that one. I actually went to school, one of the top universities might I add, to educate myself on this exact subject. I would never use that term as a rhetorical weapon knowing the historical and social weight it holds without having the proper evidence to substantiate it.”

Acho, likely thrilled that his name has been briefly inserted into the center of the discourse, quickly replied to Carrington.
“You are correct, @DijonaiVictoria , my assumption, along with the majority of the sports world, was that you posting ‘white privilege’ immediately following being thrown out of a game for fouling somebody white was regarding the foul,” he replied.
“But if the two things are somehow not connected, that’s on me. I’ll stand corrected. 🙏🏾 However, America is a speaker oriented country, so the burden is on you for being clear, direct and easy to understand.”
As Carrington mentions, she graduated from Stanford University with undergraduate degrees in psychology and African and African American Studies. After graduating from Stanford, Carrington spent a season at Baylor University before being drafted by the Connecticut Sun with the 20th overall pick in the 2021 WNBA Draft.
