DJ Moore is currently gearing up for his ninth NFL season and his first with the Bills after he was traded from the Bears in March. He hasn’t played a single snap in Buffalo, but he’s doing what he can to get fans on his side before he makes his debut after pulling an awesome move at a store in the city’s suburbs.
NFL players are faced with a number of challenges when they get traded to another team. That includes starting a new life in a new city and hitting the reset button when it comes to the goodwill they (hopefully) accrued with fans of their former squad.
There’s no better way to fill that particular meter than delivering on the field, but you can also boost (or tarnish) your reputation with your behavior off of it.
DJ Moore is obviously hoping to find himself in the good graces of Bills Mafia as he prepares for his first season in Buffalo, and he’s gotten off on the right foot after going out of his way to treat some lucky fans to free swag.
DJ Moore dropped $1,200 on his own jersey tees so a store outside Buffalo could give them away for free
Moore spent the last three seasons with the Bears after the former first-rounder kicked off his NFL career with a five-year stint with the Panthers, and in March, he was shipped off to Buffalo with a fifth-round pick in exchange for a second-round selection.
The wide receiver saw his production (and targets) plummet after hitting a career high of 1,364 receiving yards during his first year in Chicago (he ended up with exactly half of that total in the same number of games last season), and both he and the Bills are hoping he’ll benefit from a change of scenery while giving Josh Allen a brand new weapon to work with.
According to WKBW, Moore hasn’t wasted any time trying to get fans in Buffalo on his side, as he recently pounced on an opportunity that presented itself as he and his family were doing some shopping at the Walden Galleria in the suburb of Cheektowaga.
That mall is home to a store called Tee Shirt University, which had 27 of his jersey tees in stock when he recently popped inside. According to the assistant manager (who was initially unaware of his identity), he spent over $1,200 to purchase every single one before saying, ‘I’m going to leave them all here. If anybody comes and they want one, just tell them, DJ Moore bought it for them.”
The store whipped up some custom price tags featuring the message “This shirt was paid for by DJ Moore!” and it’s safe to assume the supply has been exhausted when you consider there were only two remaining as of Monday morning.
