City Of Philadelphia Greases Light Poles To Brace For Eagles Fans’ NFC Title Celebration

The Philadelphia Eagles are on their way to the Super Bowl. The team just put a bow a blowout of the 49ers, taking San Francisco down by a score of 31-7.

Philly will play in its first NFL championship in five seasons, when they beat the Patriots with Nick Foles.

As the clock continued to wind down, the celebration preparations began. Crews in Philadelphia are greasing light poles so that rabid Eagles fans won’t scale them.

This is nothing new to the city or fanbase. Greasing the poles is seen after nearly every monumental Philadelphia sports victory. Most recently, officials got ahead of the NLCS celebrations after the Phillies advanced to the World Series this past season.

That didn’t stop the crowd as many still found their way up to the top of the streetlights.

Expect those same fans to find themselves atop the light poles following this NFC Championship win, as many of these Eagles fans got started early this Sunday morning.

Philadelphia supporters were spotted tailgating for the epic matchup as early as 4 AM, nearly 12 hours before kickoff.

Still, officials are trying their best to minimize the damage, and they were seen glopping grease on those fixtures to discourage fans from climbing.

The celebration is sure to begin right after the game’s conclusion. It was a game in which Philadelphia dominated from start to finish.

The Eagles scored a pair of touchdowns near the end of the second quarter, taking a 21-7 lead into the half. They’d watch that lead balloon to 31-7 in the second half as the 49ers dealt with injuries at the quarterback position.

After starter Brock Purdy went down on the team’s first drive, reserve and fourth-string passer Josh Johnson was brought in. He was concussed later in action, which nearly made the Niners put Christian McCaffrey under center.

Instead, they opted to go back to Purdy, who was unable to throw anything more than a screen pass.

Pray for light poles in Philadelphia as the Eagles make another trip back to the Super Bowl.
