The Dallas Cowboys season is over and the front office has some work to do. Especially considering how flat the offense was in the playoffs.

All eyes are on Ezekiel Elliott right now as his contract situation suggests a potential split. The star running back speaks out about his future.

According to Kevin Patra, Elliott hopes to remain with the Cowboys. Additionally, he’s very aware of how Dallas could handle his contract, as the team can release him this offseason without facing harsh cap space punishments. Ezekiel Elliott states, “I’ve definitely thought about it. I want to be here. I don’t have a crystal ball. Can’t predict the future, but definitely want to be here.”

There is a real chance the Cowboys cut Elliott this offseason. Especially considering he’s coming off of the worst year of his career from a statistical standpoint. He played second-fiddle in the rushing attack behind Tony Pollard and mainly thrived in the red zone.

Ezekiel Elliott is due a cool $10.9 million base salary in 2023. After having a down season, the Cowboys might just be searching for a new running back. On the other hand, due to Elliott admitting he’d like to stay in Dallas, perhaps he and the franchise could restructure his contract to be more team-friendly.

Either way, there are some options on the table. However, we won’t know how it plays out until the offseason moves along further. We should hopefully expect to see some big changes made though, as the Cowboys must find a way to get over the hump. For that reason, Ezekiel Elliott’s future is up in the air.
