Unluckiest Hockey Fan Ever Wins A Dream Trip To The Stanley Cup Finals On ‘The Price Is Right’ In A Pre-Recorded Episode

Most people think of The Price Is Right as a show they’d watch when they were home sick from school or at grandma’s house. Not me. I probably watch more TPIR than 99% of the population.

Back before life got flipped and turned upside down my daily routine from 10am-12pm was to watch an hour of Wayne Brady’s Let’s Make a Deal and take that straight into The Price Is Right from 11am to 12pm. I was never actually watching the show, it was just always on as my white noise in the background which I’d never fully appreciated until anytime we’d have house guests and I’d look over to see them completely riveted on the couch by TPIR action while I was working and completely oblivious to the world.

Unfortunately for me, I haven’t been able to watch the show at all recently because I’m now juggling full-time work with trying to take care of a 12-month-old toddler who’s at home instead of daycare and I missed this clip. The show is still running but the episodes are pre-recorded which is glaringly obvious since there are still large crowds.

In this clip, the contestant is playing to win a hockey fan’s trip of a lifetime. It’s a free trip to this year’s Stanley Cup Finals. Only, the world flipped upside down and pro sports were canceled forever. No Stanley Cup Finals for this guy who has to watch his once joyous moment on TV like the rest of us:

and here is winning it all:

According to a response to that last tweet, the person claims to be his brother-in-law and says that instead of the free Stanley Cup Finals trip The Price Is Right awarded him a cash prize instead. Cash is great but the Stanley Cup Finals would’ve been a hell of a lot better.

The prize was valued at $13,000 so it’s a solid chunk of cash. But my Tampa Bay Lightning were going to redeem themselves in the playoffs this season after colossally shitting the bed last year. It was going to be a magical run that culminated in Stamkos and Kucherov hoisting the cup. You couldn’t put a price tag on that moment.
