German soccer fan @FreddyLA7 was one of the feel-good stories of the early stages of the World Cup as he went viral for documenting his travels across the American South. As with most fun viral stories, however, the narrative seems to be turning.
When the viral fame started, @FreddyLA7 was sharing photos and videos of his stops across the South, from iconic fast food chains to scenic views. His posts hit the mainstream, resulting in celebrities, brands, and government entities getting involved, such as sports teams, airlines, NASA, future NFL Hall of Famer JJ Watt, and country star Ella Langley.
WE‘RE IN OKLAHOMA CITY!!!!! Thank you so much to Ella Langley and her team for the amazing hospitality.

The hotel that JJ Watt put us up in gave us a tour of their biggest suite. It costs $150,000 a night. Completely insane. It even had its own basketball court.😭 pic.twitter.com/3kcNeLYb6F

Thank you @NASA for the coolest day ever. One week ago, we were eating Chili’s in Chattanooga, and today we’re talking to the ISS. This is the American dream.
Thanks for letting three random World Cup tourists from Germany live it for a few days. USA rocks.🇺🇸🚀 pic.twitter.com/Blgfp788WX

Invitation to the White House has the sports world turning on viral World Cup fan @FreddyLA7
While the corporatization of Freddy’s journey was already enough to turn sentiment sour, reports of a planned White House visit has completely spoiled the fun and led some to label the viral sensation as a “psyop.”
“Nick Adams, the former conservative media gadfly whose title in the Trump administration is Special Presidential Envoy for American, Tourism, Exceptionalism, and Values, told Front Office Sports in an interview Thursday that he has been in contact with Freddy and is in talks to host the mega-viral World Cup fan at both the White House and State Department before the tournament concludes.”
“’I saw all his posts, and so I took it upon myself to reach out. I said, ‘Hey, Freddy, I’m the tourism guy in America. I love what you’re saying and what you’re doing … Do you want to come to Washington? I’d be happy to take you for a tour of the State Department and the White House,’” Adams said.
Once the feds got involved, the narrative that this entire @freddyLA7 viral moment was orchestrated began to pick up steam on social media.

“Something is off about this Freddy profile/dude. Appeared suddenly out of nowhere, pushed by X algorithm from the start, never shows his actual face, gets featured by IS gov (NASA? Cmon) and celebs. It’s a psyop for sure,” one tweet read.
“I’ve been over it since they were talking to the space station and the Langley gifts blew off my top. The Freddy psyop is propaganda,” a second added.
“Genuine most obvious psyop of all time,” a third concurred.
“Yea i told yall that s— was a psyop.”
“The guy shoved onto my timeline was an op? i don’t believe it.”
“Most obvious government plant of all time?”
