Florida State will not be playing for a national championship this season. Despite having gone a perfect 13-0 and winning the ACC, the Seminoles were left out of the College Football Playoff field on Selection Sunday.

Instead, Alabama got the nod for the fourth and final spot, while one-loss Texas was seeded at No. 3. FSU players held a watch party in Tallahassee and their reaction to the deflating playoff news was hard to watch.

You can just feel the life sucked out of the room when the Crimson Tide is announced as the last team in. Frustration, anger, and dejection in a single clip.

Many believed the Seminoles would get a shot after wrapping up the season undefeated. Not only did they kickstart the season with wins over LSU and Clemson, but they overcame a season-ending injury to starting quarterback Jordan Travis beating Florida and No. 14 Louisville in their last two contests.

Still, it wasn’t enough.

The committee believed that the injury at quarterback made Florida State a different team than the one that was ranked in the top five for most of the season. With Alabama and Texas picking up more convincing wins at the end of the year, they were given priority.

Committee chair Boo Corrigan explains the FSU playoff decision.

“Florida State is a different team than they were through the first 11 weeks,” the committee chair said. “To Coach Norvell, their players, their fans – it was an incredible season, but as you look at who they are as a team right now without Jordan Travis, without the offensive dynamic that he brings, they are a different team.”

This is the first time in CFP history that an undefeated Power Five champion will be left out of the national championship discussion.
