College baseball pitcher Gage Wood will never have to pay for brisket in the state of Arkansas again. The Razorbacks starter threw the game of his life in the College World Series on Monday. He’s now being rewarded.
Wood struck out 19 batters in a complete game no-hitter, and is already reaping the benefits!
The Razorbacks entered a Monday afternoon matchup against Murray State with the season on the line. They faced elimination after a Game 1 loss to SEC rival LSU.
Arkansas turned to its sophomore star. He wouldn’t disappoint.

The righty was unhittable against a Murray State lineup that was one of college baseball’s best in both the regular and postseason. The Racers had five starters hitting .315 or better. They had four players with double digit home runs.
In the Regional round, the offense lit up the scoreboard to the tune of 10.5 runs per night. It was more of the same in the Super Regional against Duke (9.3 rpg). They were unable to figure out Gage Wood on Monday.
Wood faced 28 batters. He struck out all but nine. He had a perfect game going into the eighth inning before hitting a batter. It was his lone blemish of the day.
Arkansas won the game, 3-0. Their season stays alive for one game longer while the Racers are forced to go home. When Hogs do eventually travel back to Fayetteville, Wood should be set up quite nicely.

Wright’s Barbecue has four locations in the state of Arkansas. The joint boasts boatloads of accolades to include best barbeque in Arkansas (Southern Living) and best barbeque in America 2024 (YELP), alongside a best chef in the south nomination by the James Beard Awards.
Most are going to spend a pretty penny while visiting the establishment, as is the case with most upscale BBQ stops. That won’t be the case for Wood!

The no-hitter was just the third in College World Series history, and the first since 1960. Gage Wood’s name will go down in the record books.
Wood is from the state of Arkansas but initially committed to play at Kansas State. It didn’t take long after the Hogs offered for him to change his mind.
Wood flipped from the Wildcats to Arkansas before signing day. He played immediately as a freshman in 2023, landing All-SEC honors. He’s followed it up with another productive campaign, becoming a Razorback legend in the process.
The pitcher’s now reaping the benefits. It might not be the only perk from his historic no-hitter.
