Georgia baseball’s season ended in the College World Series after a loss to Oklahoma. Star catcher Daniel Jackson displayed strong character despite the dejecting result.

He stayed back to sign autographs for fans before boarding the bus home. In an instance where he could’ve easily ignored his supporters, he showed his true colors.

In doing so, he provided a highlight for visitors that travelled to Omaha to root on the Bulldogs.

Who is Daniel Jackson?

The Georgia baseball backstop is the squad’s top slugger. During his junior season, he led the team in batting average (.379), home runs (32), and RBIs (87).

He shined during the postseason, hitting .307 with five dingers and eight runs batted in. His biggest blast came in the super regionals vs. Mississippi State with a homer that sent the Bulldogs to Omaha.

Nicknamed “The Rhino,” Jackson spent his first season at Wofford before transferring to Athens. He got the opportunity to play on the sport’s biggest stage as a result.

Unfortunately, it didn’t end how he’d hoped. Georgia’s season came to a conclusion with an 11-4 loss to Oklahoma on Wednesday night. He received a curtain call after hitting a double in his final at-bat.

The loss was crushing for the Bulldogs, who’d had sights set on the national championship. Players, Jackson included, were emotional in the dugout as the Sooners sealed their fate. He fought back tears upon returning to the bench after his last plate appearance.

It was likely Jackson’s final game as a college player. He is considered a Top 40 MLB prospect with the draft approaching. He probably won’t be back in Athens for his senior year.

With that said, his career will end with a loss at the College World Series. That did not stop him from being kind after the fact.

Jackson signed autographs for Georgia baseball fans.

Given the gravity of the situation, no one would’ve blamed Daniel Jackson for getting on the bus without acknowledging fans. He refused to reject his supporters.

The catcher interacted with youngsters after the game, similar to what we saw with Texas infielder Adrian Rodriguez after the Longhorns’ season-ending loss to these Bulldogs.

Some things are bigger than wins and losses. Jackson proved it with his postgame autograph session.
