Georgia Bulldogs quarterback Carson Beck had one of the best seasons in college football this year that very few people talked about. On Monday, the junior announced he will be return to school next year in the hopes of bringing Georgia a national title after the team fell short this year.

Beck announced his return via Georgia’s official social media.

That’s a huge boost to the Bulldogs for next year, as the first-year starter had an excellent season after sitting behind two-time national champion Stetson Bennett the last two years.

On the year, Carson Beck completed a very impressive 72.6% of his passes for 22 touchdowns and 6 interceptions on 9.4 yards per attempt. It’s even more impressive when you consider that his top two targets, tight end Brock Bowers and wide receiver Ladd McConkey, battled injuries for much of the season.

Ultimately, expectations were a third-straight national championship or bust for the Bulldogs, and a loss to Alabama in the SEC Championship Game left them on the outside looking in when it came to the College Football Playoff.

That may work to Beck’s favor, though, when it comes to the Heisman race for next year. He’s going to put up big numbers and likely will be the focal point of the offense. If he’s seen as the guy that has Georgia playing dominant football again, Heisman voters will love that.

Georgia’s schedule is also incredibly difficult next year. The Bulldogs get Alabama, Ole Miss, and Texas all on the road, play Clemson in Atlanta, and have Texas A&M and Tennessee at home. But, successfully navigating that schedule with a lot big-time games will only enhance his Heisman chances. Part of the reason he didn’t get a lot of Heisman buzz this year was that Georgia didn’t play a lot of marquee games and had a weak schedule.

For now, his focus will be on handing Florida State their first loss in the Orange Bowl on December 30.
