New York Giants General Manager Joe Schoen told reporters on Tuesday that the team has begun contract extension talks with the agent of star defensive tackle Dexter Lawrence.

The news comes after Lawrence had a standout 2022 season, posting career highs with 7.5 sacks and 28 quarterback hits.

Selected in the first round of the 2019 NFL Draft, Lawrence has been a key player for the Giants since his arrival from Clemson. In his fourth season with the team, Lawrence was selected to the Pro Bowl and was named second team All-Pro.

At 6’4 and 342 pounds, the 25-year-old Lawrence has become a dominant force on the Giants’ defensive line, racking up 16.5 career sacks and 58 quarterback hits. He was especially impressive in the Giants’ playoff victory over the Minnesota Vikings during the 2022 playoffs, playing a major role in the team’s success.

Entering the final year of his rookie contract, Lawrence’s extension talks with the Giants are sure to be closely watched by fans.

If the team is able to lock him up long-term, Lawrence could continue to be a cornerstone of the Giants’ defense for years to come.

Dexter is also one of the more entertaining Mic’d Up players in the NFL, as shown here during the playoffs.
