The Green Bay Packers are stuck.

They currently hold a 3-5 record, which has them 3.5 games behind the NFC North-leading Minnesota Vikings. Their losses have come thanks to an offense that is currently among the worst in the league. Despite having a starting quarterback who has won the NFL MVP in each of the past two seasons, the Packers are scoring the 7th least points per game.

Unfortunately for Packers fans, the trade deadline passed yesterday without the team making a move for any offensive reinforcements, meaning the roster they had already assembled will need to improve or the team could miss the playoffs this season.

The news was disappointing enough for Packers fans without any details about the team’s negotiations at the deadline, but now that there are reports on some of the offers they made, Packers fans should be livid.

Yesterday, there was a report that the Packers had offered the Steelers a 2nd round pick for Chase Claypool, but the Steelers traded him to the Bears instead because they believed that 2nd round pick would be earlier in round 2.

It turns out that Claypool wasn’t the only receiver they offered a 2nd round pick for. According to Denver Broncos insider Benjamin Albright, the Packers offered a 2nd for Jerry Jeudy, but wouldn’t give up another mid-round pick to land the 23-year old receiver.

When you have the league’s most expensive quarterback and a losing record and there’s a chance that bringing in one specific player could change your fortunes, a mid-round pick should not prevent you from making the move.

There’s a very good chance that the player the Packers spend the pick on never becomes a starter and they could be off the roster before their rookie contract is finished. That dart throw pick is not nearly important enough for you to not improve your team right now with a player who could be a part of your roster for years to come.

The Green bay Packers have had surefire Hall of Famers at quarterback for the last 30 years, but have only won 2 Super Bowls in that time. Decisions like this are why.
